Whether you work in game development — from programming, art, and design to everyone obsessing about the process of creating those things — attending appropriate events can be a literal game-changer (sorry for the pun). It’s in these gatherings where new concepts are born, relationships form, and the next revolution in gaming is crafted. So, without further ado, here are five fantastic gamedev events you can take a peek at.
1. Game Developers Conference (GDC)
Where: San Francisco, USA
When: March
GDC is the grandest gathering of game developers. Full of talks, workshops and panels led by industry legends, where you can discover tech advancements, hot design tricks or tools that could elevate your games. If you attend, feel free to stop by and chat with some of software dev teams like XIM & partners — we’ll be around to discuss turning a game concept into something.
2. Gamescom
Where: Cologne, Germany
When: August
Big enough for both, Gamescom is a huge festival for gamers and developers too. Although it’s best known for the energy targeted toward fans, the Business Area is where industry professionals go to make deals and show off their games. Another highlight for pure gamedev know-how is Devcom, a pre-Gamescom conference. You might even run into the XIM team there. We love collaborating on new game ideas!
3. Tokyo Game Show (TGS)
Where: Chiba, Japan
When: September
TGS focuses on Japanese gaming culture, but with a global spin. If you want to know how to penetrate the Asian market or just experience some good vibes from Japanese gamedevs, this event is worth a visit. At the same time, XIM and partners have a real affinity for innovation, so if you are going to TGS, we might be able to help you make your dreams come true.
4. PAX Dev
Where: Seattle, USA
When: August/September
PAX Dev is all developers — no press allowed. This is a laid-back yet purposeful event where developers can expose their ideas, ask others about solutions and nerd out. For indie devs who require assistance with any kind of coding, tools, or game infrastructure, Team XIM can be an ideal partner.
5. IndieCade
Location: LA (and online)
When: October
IndieCade, dubbed the Sundance of gaming, is all about creativity and experimentation. A place where indie devs can display passion projects among other like-minded people. Want to develop an indie game but not sure where to start? XIM and friends are always happy to work on something a bit different or outside what we usually do.
So, gamedev events are not only a place to learn, but also a place where ideas are born and partnerships arise. Whether you’re crafting your very first indie game or are at the helm of a dev team, these events are all worthy of your time. If you are planning on attending any of these events, hit us up — XIM and its partners would love nothing more than to grab a coffee, have a conversation and see how we can help turn your game into the next best seller!
